Do I get another?

Hi, I've had my chinchilla for almost a year now, and I think he's lonely. Should I get another one or would this upset him?

A great question, but there is not a simple answer. Some chinchillas (like some people) will never do well with others. Unfortunately, you won't know until you try - but I find this is not common for chinchillas.

Indeed, chinchillas normally live in groups, and most benefit greatly from interaction with others, whether it be human or animal. I've even seen them bond with dogs! For most chinchillas - especially if they spend large parts of the day by themselves - I would say find an appropriate friend.
